In order to foster an environment where all of our athletes are afforded an equal opportunity to bat and field, the following rules have been put into place:

  1. Each batter will be thrown 15 pitches. After 15 pitches with no successful hits the batter has an option to rest and be brought back to bat once everyone else on the roster has been given a chance to bat. Alternatively, they may also request the use of a batting tee after the 15 pitches or ask one of our volunteers to assist them with hitting the ball. This ensures that no one player tires themselves out or, alternatively, that players in the field wont become too overheated during the warmer months of the season.
  2. We constantly monitor temperatures. If the temperatures get too cold or too hot, we will either cancel games ahead of time or call games in the middle of the game (if necessary.) We strive to play in temperatures above 55 degrees (also knowing that layers can be added for warmth) and under 80 degrees (knowing full well that a certain amount of dress is needed on the field and a portion of our athletes may have issues with temperature sensitivities.) If the games are called before they begin, we will utilize a make-up date. If they are called when a majority of the games on a specific day have taken place, we will *not* utilize a make-up day for that game.
  3. We have no outs, strikes or balls. Players will bat until they hit the ball pursuant to Rule #1.
  4. Participants in Game 1 will use foam wrapped bats and “squishy” balls whereas participants in Games 2 and 3 will use wooden or metal bats and larger and firmer (but still soft) balls.
  5. Abuse of any participant on the field will not be tolerated. Warnings will be given when senior NMMLC volunteers (a.k.a. permanent volunteers) are made aware of any situation in which verbal, physical or emotional abuse is witnessed or alleged. If the abuse continues, we reserve the right to remove any participant from future NMMLC activities and, if warranted, law enforcement will be notified and we will pursue all legal remedies to the extent of the applicable laws.
